The Branch is pleased to announce that the guest speaker for our AGM on the 1st March has been confirmed as Roger McKenzie.
Roger was appointed as an Assistant General Secretary of UNISON with responsibility for organising and recruitment in December 2010. Prior to that Roger was the West Midlands Regional Secretary of UNISON. Roger was also the regional secretary of the Midlands TUC for the 4 years up to 2008. Roger is the first black person to have held any of these roles.
Roger was born in Walsall and holds a Masters Degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management. He is also a graduate of the Harvard University International Trade Union Programme.
Prior to working full time in the trade union movement Roger had a varied work record which includes building labouring, painting and decorating, local government housing management, and trade union education tutoring in FE colleges.
Roger has extensive experience of working in the trade union movement at local, regional, national and international levels. He has also advised trade unionists, politicians and business leaders on employment related issues, especially on equality matters and in recognition of his work on equality Roger was awarded an OBE.
