We are pleased to announce the imminent first screening of the film documentary “Chasing Michael Davitt” about one of the most important Irish personalities of 19th century.
Davitt rejected the violent path to social change by advancing non-violent peaceful resistance as a means of achieving success. His leadership of the National Land League paved the way towards independence in Ireland in 1921.
Davitt’s later career as a pioneering journalist/war correspondent/newspaper editor focussed attention on the deprived and exploited not only in these islands but throughout the world.
Davitt’s methods didn’t go unnoticed by Mahatma Gandhi and latterly Nelson Mandela.
Celebrated singer/musician Dónal Maguire and film maker Paul Vernon Lydiate take you on a musical journey through this remarkable man’s tragically short life.
The film will be screened at the IDL Club George St Haslingden BB4 5RX.
