When the National Joint Council (NJC) Committee last met, it agreed to wait for the results of Unite’s industrial action ballot before publicly confirming the next steps. The majority of Unite’s ballots have now closed and their committee has met to consider the results.
UNISON nationally has now received information from Unite on their results. Our NJC Executive met last Friday and agreed to call a meeting of the NJC joint trade union executive, which includes representatives from UNISON, Unite and GMB. This meeting has been scheduled for early next week and will enable UNISON’s NJC Executive representatives to receive the positions of the other unions, and to set out our position to them.
Following this meeting, the NJC Executive expects to be in a position to communicate the next steps to the NJC Committee, and then we can provide a more detailed update on the pay award to our branch activists. We recognise that many members may be feeling frustrated at the lack of information on the pay award since our industrial action ballot closed on Tuesday 4 July. While the national union continues discussions with the other joint trade unions, your continued patience is appreciated and we hope to provide a more positive update very soon on what will happen next.
